line launch: meli meli
children's business magazine, september 05

Following a soft launch in select California boutiques, girls' market newcomer Meli Meli is now poised to peddle its wares to retailers nationwide. Created by Palo Alto-based designer Renée Kollias, the collection (whose name is Greek for "honey honey") treats girls to playful, European-feeling looks with a dash of vintage flair. The company's upcoming Spring 2006 offering, for instance, gives a nostalgic nod to the 1920s with a graceful tulip-shaped dress inspired by old-fashioned bathing costumes, and to the 1950s with a flirty dance dress whose silhouette takes its cues from the classic circle skirt. Both pieces feature dainty hand appliqués and embroidery work. Other highlights for spring include sailor-style trousers featuring oversized pockets, full skirts with petticoat layers and long flowing floral-print dresses trimmed in ruffles.

Available in sizes 2 to 12, Meli Meli retails from $35 to $150. Phone 650-326-2252
